Prince Bishop Damian Hugo von Schönborn wrote on 21 October 1740 to the Privy Council of Meersburg on the planned completion of the "Neues Schloss" (New Pa lace):
"However, we are glad for the fact that the structure of Brother Christoph (Gessinger) remains completely open, for (...) the building will be made into a livable good division, the sketch is more or less already finished, and First Lieutenant Neumann (Balthasar Neumann) from Würzburg has just been here to put our concept to paper. The entire act lies in adding a better and new staircase (...). Thereupon the stall (will be) made into a court chapel, the second floor for the court officer, the middle floor into our appartement and the fourth floor divided for guests".
In a letter of 11 September 1741 to Damian Hugo von Schönborn, Balthasar Neumann justifies his fees payable: He "...will produce such a work that His Princely Eminence will see for himself that this, my request, is but small recompense for an artist".
