Hidden between grape vines in the hill above the upper town area of Meersburg lies the "Fürstenhäusle" (Prince's Little House), which looks out on the magnificent New Palace (Neues Schloss) in Meersburg and offers a fabulous view over Lake Constance in its glittering splendor and the nearby peaks of the Alps.
Originally built by a Konstanz canon as a garden house, it was for many years the creative retreat of the poetess Annette of Droste-Hülshoff (1797-1848), who spent the last years of her life on Lake Constance.
Since 1923 the Fürstenhäusle has housed a museum which commemorates the life and work of Annette of Droste-Hülshoff. The poetess can be paid a very private visit here between Biedermeier furniture, the paintings and books of Ms. Droste.
